Dean keen to maintain form

Bradford Park Avenue update, by Lewis Sale

'If we play like we did against Matlock Town, we hope to keep our good run going,' claims Bradford (Park Avenue) chairman Dr John Dean, ahead of their fixtures against Frickley Athletic and North Ferriby United.

The Avenue travel away for the next two crucial fixtures in the Evostik Northern Premier Division, on the back of their last gasp draw at the Horsfall Stadium against Matlock Town on Saturday afternoon.

Bradford have only suffered one defeat in the previous six games, and Dean believes that 'the performance against Matlock was 'very encouraging,' as well as being 'unlucky not to win the game.' During the clash, the visiting goalkeeper Jon Kennedy produced a string of quality saves from left winger Nicky Boshell, captain Rob O'Brien and the eventual hero Adam Clayton. Despite the brave efforts from the Gladiators to resist the onslaught of the Avenue attack, they conceded a stoppage time goal as Rob O' Brien's cross from the left flank was headed in the bottom by the right back Adam Clayton.

At the same time, Bradford introduced Curtis Bernard, who had signed earlier in the week from Scarborough Athletic. After watching him in action in his previous stint for the club, Dean said of Bernard, 'he looked lively and produced some good touches that opened up opportunities for the other players.' With one striker coming in, one striker left the club on loan, as fans favourite Tom Greaves marked his second debut for Garforth Town with a brace of goals.

Nevertheless, despite the good run of form, Dr John Dean urged caution ahead of their trips to Frickley Athletic and North Ferriby United: 'We are coming up against two very good sides in this division. Frickley have been always proved to be a difficult team for us, and a midweek trip to North Ferriby United will be tough. With a new manager in Billy Heath, and a few new players, they have only suffered one defeat in seven league games, which has seen them climb the league.'
