Fair Play Awards - August 2011

By Tom Snee

Write-up by Phil Bradley.

The First Fair Play awards of the season have gone to CHASETOWN, LANCASTER CITY and LEEK TOWN respectively.

Chasetown, who just missed out on the Premier Division Fair Play prize money last season when they finished fourth, took the top tier prize for August with five cautions in six games. Ashton United, who were called before the FA last season because of their poor disciplinary record and finished bottom of last season’s Fair Play table, seem to have put their house in order and finished second in the August table but another club who had to face the FA on discipline last season, Stocksbridge PS, would have won the award had manager Gary Marrow not been dismissed from the Technical Area in the match at North Ferriby.

Lancaster City, who have won the overall season awards for the last two years plus being named as the FA’s Respect and Fair Play award national winner for all clubs at Steps 1-4 in May, showed their standards haven’t slipped when they edged out Woodley Sports in the First Division North award. Both clubs had just two cautions in six games and it came down to Technical Area marks to split the pair with Lancaster being given five “Excellent” and one “Good” marks whilst Woodley received two “Excellent”, three “Good” and one “Satisfactory” marks.

The First Division South accolade went to Leek Town who finished third in last season’s overall Fair Play tables. They had four cautions in six games two less than Brigg Town and four clear of five other clubs.

Chasetown will receive their award of a 1.5 litre bottle of Famous Grouse Whiskey prior to the kick off of their League fixture versus Kendal Town on the 24th September. Lancaster City will receive their whiskey on Saturday 17th September prior to their home FA Cup tie against Maine Road. Leek Town will receive their award on Tuesday 13th September prior to the League game versus Newcastle Town.
