Fell hails his Wright move

Ramsbottom United manager Mark Fell is backing former FC United of Manchester star Jerome Wright to be an instant hit when he returns to the EVO-STIK League.

The 32-year-old, pictured in action for the Rebels, was hailed by Fell on Friday after signing on at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium for the upcoming 2017-18 EVO-STIK League North season following a brief stint with EVO-STIK League newboys Altrincham.

Versatile, Wright can play at left-back or across the midfield and was a legend at FC United, scoring 82 goals in more than 400 appearances for the Rebels before leaving in the summer.

Before his side's friendly with Fleetwood Town on Friday was postponed, Fell told fans that he was delighted to add the Rebels legend to his squad alongside former FC United players Dean Stott and Greg Daniels.

The Rams boss said: "Jerome is an outstanding player, he's unbelievably fit and knows what it takes to be successful in this division. He had loads of offers from loads of north west clubs but I think it's testament to what we are building here that he approached us to join."

Rams fans could get their first glimpse of Wright in action at Daisy Hill on Tuesday night with the new season less than two weeks away and Fell expecting to make at least one more signing.

He added: "We've at least one, maybe two, if we can get them over the line. It's that time of season where some players are realising they're not in the plans at clubs higher up the pyramid, so availability is changing. We're still very active in the market so hopefully we can strengthen further before we get started."
