Frecklington is new Tulips boss

Frecklington returned to the Sir Halley Stewart Field on Sunday night, taking charge only days after ending his three year reign at Lincoln United after guiding the Whites to a fifth placed finish and the EVO-STIK NPL First Division South play-offs.

The successor to Marcus Ebdon, who left after their final match of the campaign, the new Tulips boss penned a three year deal to fulfill the club's promotion dreams after playing for them with some distinction as a hard-hitting midfielder in the late 1990s.

Welcoming back their former player in a club statement, spokesman Andy Gay said: "We are delighted to welcome Dave back into the club. From the outset of our meeting he was singing from the same hymn sheet as us, ticking all of the right boxes and the outcome was that we had no hesitation in offering him the job.

"He has had three very successful seasons with Lincoln United and we look to him to replicate that success with us. We look forward to a solid working partnership."

Frecklington, pictured, said: "I am delighted to be given the opportunity to manage a club which I enjoyed success with as a player, particularly winning four trophies in the 1998-99 season. The drive and ambition of the club is the same as mine and it is a fresh challenge I am really looking forward to."

Frecklington kicked off his playing career in the youth ranks at Lincoln City and was leading scorer and voted player-of-the-season in his final season at Sincil Bank. He went on to make more than 100 appearances in three spells with Lincoln United, starting in the reserves side which did a Lincolnshire League double.

After playing a big part in the success of the first team, he went on to play for Spalding, Stamford, Grantham and Shepshed Dynamo before moving into management, cutting his teeth as a manager at Dynamo before returning to Stamford as assistant manager. He moved on to Worksop Town in the same role before taking charge in his own right again at Lincoln United.
