Macclesfield sign highly-rated striker

Macclesfield have announced the signing of Dan Sweeney from Bromsgrove Sporting.

The 25-year-old, who scored 18 goals in 22 appearances for Bromsgrove, arrives at the Silkmen for an undisclosed fee.

An athletic striker, Sweeney started his career at Southport before securing a move to National League side Solihull Moors in 2018.

After loan spells at Hednesford, Leamington and Bradford Park Avenue, the 6'2" forward joined Southern Football League side Redditch, scoring 13 times for the Worcestershire outfit.

Sweeney becomes the club's third signing in the space of one week, after landing the signatures of winger Navid Nasseri and former Manchester United defender Tom Thorpe.

"I'm delighted to be at a club like Macclesfield," he said. "Hopefully I can help push them the right way.

"My previous club were contacted by Macclesfield, and it was impossible to say no, to be honest.

"The name speaks for itself. It's a huge club in non-league football."

Sweeney will go into contention for Macclesfield's next fixture on Saturday as they welcome Glossop North End to the Leasing.com Stadium.
