NPL round-up | Saturday 24 February

By James Gordon

Radcliffe moved a step closer to promotion as goals in either half from Lois Maynard and Anthony Dudley helped them to a hard-fought 2-1 win at Ilkeston Town.

The Boro picked up their 23rd league win of the season, despite both teams playing the entirety of the second half with 10 men after a scuffle near the tunnel as the players left the field at the end of the first half resulted in straight red cards for Luke Cox and Willem Tomlinson.

Other results over the weekend also went in Radcliffe's favour, meaning they now sit 16 points clear at the Northern Premier League summit with nine games to play.

Below them, Marine climbed up to second after an emphatic 4-0 victory over Bradford Park Avenue.

Bobby Grant was on target twice for the Mariners as they bounced back in ideal fashion following their 3-2 defeat at Radcliffe one week earlier.

In one of the day's surprise scorelines, Hyde United fell to a late 2-1 defeat at Whitby Town.

Brad Fewster scored the winner for the Seasiders, who end the weekend inside the top 10.

In their first game since the departure of manager Michael Clegg to Macclesfield, 10-man Warrington Rylands were beaten 4-1 at home by Gainsborough Trinity.

A Declan Howe double helped sink the Blues, whose afternoon got worse midway through the second half when DJ Pedro was sent off for two bookable offences.

Elsewhere, Worksop Town and Guiseley's play-off hopes took a hit as they lost 4-2 at home to Bamber Bridge and 2-1 away at Stafford Rangers respectively.

Those results mean Macclesfield remain in the top five, despite their trip to Atherton Collieries being called off after a late pitch inspection.

The top-half battle between Ashton United and Lancaster City also fell foul of the conditions, with a waterlogged Hurst Cross pitch meaning their game will need to be rearranged.

In the day's other action, two Sam Hodgson penalties helped Morpeth Town to a 3-0 win over FC United of Manchester, while first half goals from David Symington and Sam Smith were enough to see Workington past Matlock Town.

The Gladiators have lost four of their last five but remain 14 points clear of relegation fears.
