Roadside rescue saves the day!

By David Watters

Coalville Town and Marine definitely had to go the extra mile on Saturday to ensure their meeting in the EVO-STK Northern Premier League' top flight went ahead.

When the Ravens heard their opponents from Merseyside had broken down 15 miles from their home in Leicestershire and were stranded at the side of the road, they promptly dispatched a fleet of seven cars to go and pick them up!

After hastily arranging their visitors' travel plans, Coalville tweeted that the EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division fixture would be going ahead, with a warning to fans to expect a slight delay due to the unusual circumstances!

The Ravens, who were later thanked by EVO-STIK NPL officials for ensuring the fixture went ahead despite mechanical disaster striking, tweeted: "Might be a slight delay to kick off as we have had to fetch our friends at @MarineAFC 15 miles away from ground, great effort everyone!"

New manager Tommy Lawson is pictured leading the Mariners to be picked up at a suitable rendezvoux before the club's relieved officials sent their thanks to their opponents on the social media platform, @MarineAFC tweeting: "A huge thank you to all the staff of @CoalvilleTownFC for picking us up after our coach breakdown #nonleaguefamily."

Fittingly, the clubs later shared the points in a 0-0 draw and Mariners secretary Richard Cross said afterwards: "Marine FC would like to thank the chairman, secretary and all the volunteers of Coalville Town FC who rallied round to meet the stranded team and directors some 15 miles from the ground. Without their help the game would have been in severe doubt. This act just goes to show the great clubs that we have in our league."
