Summer trials start for future stars

By David Watters

The Northern Premier League Football Academy's coaches are looking to enlist their next generation of champions over the coming weeks with summer trials now well underway.

Open to Year 11 and 12 students looking to continue their education in September, the summer trials are the fourth and final chance of 2018 for potential students to showcase their talents and earn a place at the NPLFA, English football's first and only league wide academy combining football with further education.

The NPLFA was founded with the backing of the Football Association at five pilot clubs in September 2014 to provide career pathways into the football industry with students studying on two year BTEC courses. Since last season, students have been able to continue their education to degree level after the NPLFA teamed up with Loughborough College in the summer of 2017 to launch a new higher education partnership.

The NPLFA is set to expand to 15 clubs and successful candidates at the trials will be dreaming of following in the footsteps of the academy's three current graduates to the pro game, Yohan Rutty-Smith leading the way with a move from Romulus to Notts County in 2015, Max Hunt from Matlock Town to Derby County back in January and Morgan Williams in June after he sealed a dream move from Mickleover Sports to Coventry City.

To see the NPLFA's latest promotional videos and success stories, follow on Twitter at @NPLFA or visit: www.nplfa.co.uk. To attend any of the trials listed below, candidates should register their details at nplfa.co.uk/register before receiving further information on the clubs they've chosen.
