Tooth is back as new Pitmen boss

Neil Tooth is back in the EVO-STIK Nothern Premier League as the new manager of Hednesford Town after the Pitmen moved swiftly to replace Gary Birch.

The former Sutton Coldfield Town manager, pictured, was named as Hednesford Town's new manager on Monday, less than 72 hours after the departure of Birch from the EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division club on Friday.

Tooth, who will be assisted by Phil Male, Andy Ling and former Keys Park favourite Kris Taylor, has been tasked with improving on the Pitmen's disappointing 15th place finish to the last campaign after returning to the EVO-STIK NPL's top flight following his departure from the Royals in November 2016.

Tooth, who left the Royals in November 2016, said: “I’m delighted to be appointed as manager of Hednesford Town Football Club. It is a fantastic club and this is a job that I am really looking forward to getting stuck into it.

“I know that we are perhaps a week or so behind other clubs but in the coming days I shall be speaking to Hednesford players from last season and also to other players about potentially signing as we look to build a squad.

“Having got Sutton promoted into this league, and then finishing twelve in the first season, I know what it is all about and I can’t wait to get going with Hednesford.”

In a statement confirming the appointment of their new management team, the Pitmen said: "The manager will now begin work on shaping his squad ahead of the 2017-18 EVO-STIK Northern Premier League campaign. We would all like to wish the new management team well with their appointments."

Former Walsall striker Birch was unveiled as the new manager of Walsall Wood on Saturday a day after quitting Hednesford Town for work and personal reasons.

Originally appointed in February as caretaker manager following the departure of former Pitmen boss Paul Casey, the ex-Saddlers star was handed the role on a permanent basis in March following an impressive run in the EVO-STIK NPL's top flight before results dropped away.

* The Pitmen have launched a major drive to recruit new volunteers for matchdays to help out with everything from manning the turnstiles to stewarding, hospitality and selling programmes. For more information email: office@hednesfordtownfc.com.
