Abbott joins Ashton United

Central midfielder Brad Abbott has joined Ashton United.

He becomes Steve Cunningham's third summer signing, having left fellow Northern Premier League side Matlock Town following the conclusion of the 2022/23 campaign.

The former Boston United and Spennymoor Town man also brings Football League experience into the Hurst Cross dressing room, having come through the ranks and made first team appearances for Barnsley.

Manager Steve Cunningham said: "I wanted more leaders, players that set standards and players that call people out.

"Brad ticks all those boxes and I'm sure the fans will love his no-nonsense approach to the middle of the park."
