Age no barrier at Blues

Leek Town

Leek Town are targeting their community’s youngest talent again this season with their specialist football crèche for 5 to 7–year-olds.

At its height last season up to sixty children trained at the Thursday night crèche. The Blues are now recruiting again to reach those kind of numbers as they continue to develop the Evo-Stik NPL First Division South club’s award winning junior set-up.

Officials say many crèche graduates have gone on to help form seven junior Leek sides over the past two seasons so new places are now available for both boys and girls.

The crèche runs every Thursday from 6pm to 7pm at Westwood College and is specifically designed for youngsters who might not want too play in a team yet but simply love training.

A Blues spokesman said: "The club stresses that the crèche is not just for boys and girls who wish to join a team but is open to those that just want to take part in the training.

"Many of the boys and girls start out that way. Some decide that they wish to join a team at a later date, some prefer to just carry on training. What it always does is develop their confidence and ability to mix with other children, not only from their own school but from others around the area."

The head coach at the crèche is none other than Paul Clowes, who played over 300 games for Blues. He is aided by several other coaches, all of whom have the relevant qualifications and have undergone the necessary CRB checks.
