Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Farsley AFC are riding to the rescue of the British Army’s top footballers on Monday night.

Neil Parsley’s First Division North side are set to take on an Army XI at Throstle Nest following a lunchtime request on Friday to help them warm-up for a Tri-Services clash with the Navy later this month.

A number of the Army’s players only returned from Afghanistan last week and their manager Joey Collins called the Villagers’ assistant manager Simeon Bambrook to arrange the training match after the pair played together when Farsley’s coach was in the forces himself.

Farsley AFC’s Secretary Joshua Greaves said: "It was late notice but we are very proud and honoured to be asked. We are all looking forward to the game which is open to the public and the servicemen and women we hope to welcome to Throstle Nest."

Kick-off on Monday is 7.45pm with admission priced £3. All of Farsley's regular facilities for supporters will be open.
