Aston Villa starlet to provide international cover for Walsall Wood

Walsall Wood have announced the signing of Aston Villa goalkeeper Sam Lewis on a youth loan.

Lewis will provide cover for regular number one Dale Eve, who has joined up with the Bermudan national team for the next two weeks.

Eve left on international duty following the conclusion of Saturday's 2-1 win at home to Bedworth United - a result which leaves the club in the top half of the Pitching In NPL Midlands Division.

Bermuda are due to play games against Brunei on Friday 22 March and Guinea on Monday 25 March.

Lewis, his replacement for the coming weeks, has been part of the Villa setup since U9s level.

He signed a scholarship deal with the club in July 2022 and stepped up to their U18s squad ahead of the 2022/23 season.

He could make his debut for the Wood when they host Boldmere St Michaels on Tuesday night.
