Atherton Colls appoint new manager

Atherton Collieries have announced the appointment of David Chadwick as their new manager.

Chadwick replaces Brad Cooke, who stepped down after four seasons at Skuna Park. He helped the Colls to survive on the final day of the Premier Division season, thanks to a 3-3 draw against Stalybridge Celtic.

As a manager, Chadwick was recently in charge of Ramsbottom United. His appointment did see an upturn in form for United, but ultimately could not stop them from getting relegated. He has also coached at Chorley’s under-21s and was also an assistant at FC United of Manchester.

Meanwhile, as a player, he was the first ever captain for FC United of Manchester, and made over 200 appearances for the Red Rebels. He also played for Prescot Cables, Leigh RMI, Daisy Hill and Salford City.

Chadwick said he wants the fans to get behind the club, as he looks to rebuild the Colls and get them higher up the table.

“It’s exciting, and I’m a bit shocked,” he said. “Yesterday morning, I wasn’t expecting to be stood here.

“ I got a call out of the blue to come down for a conversation, and it felt good. There was a good feel around the place, and it felt right.

“It seems like a really good, community, family club. I think the fans are always getting beind the team. They know it’s been a hard few years, they have been successful, stayed up.

“It’s a big rebuild this season. Everyone has seen that already with players leaving. It’s one we’re looking forward to and we just want them to get behind the lads.”
