Bank Holiday Monday's First North review

By David Watters

The only 100 per cent record in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North went on Bank Holiday Monday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Farsley Celtic had won their opening three games but were held to a goalless draw by newcomers Tadcaster Albion at the i2i Stadium in front of an excellent crowd of 510. Chances were at a premium for both sides during the game and there was a sense that both camps were satisfied with a point after the 90 minutes.

Droylsden suffered their first defeat of the new campaign, 3-1 at the Butcher`s Arms against Tameside neighbours Mossley AFC.

Tom Pratt gave the Lilywhites a 12th minute lead that Michael Fish doubled just after the break. Pratt`s second settled matters 15 minutes from time, with Steve Lewis netting a consolation five minutes later.

Prescot Cables are now the only other unbeaten team after hammering neighbours Burscough 5-0, who have yet to win, on their own patch.

Rob Doran was Cables` hero, netting a hat-trick after James Edgar had given them an early lead – Jack Phillips adding the other.

Goole AFC are the only other team yet to win, but at least broke their duck on Monday with a 1-1 draw at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds against Scarborough Athletic.

A crowd of 362 saw player boss Lee Morris show his team how it`s done by giving his side a 22nd minute lead. But Carl Stewart`s 71st minute equaliser earned Boro a draw.

Ossett Albion and Radcliffe Borough both picked up their first victories of the new season.

Albion earned local bragging rights by winning the derby at Ingfield against Ossett Town, courtesy of a Rob Bordman brace in the 22nd and 40th minutes – the second from the penalty spot in front of a crowd of 448.

Radcliffe won 2-0 at Stainton Park against Trafford, thanks to Elliot Rokka after 77 minutes and Jack Hindle three minutes from time.

Brighouse Town recorded a third win in four at Llanellian Road against a Colwyn Bay side for who, in contrast, this was a third defeat since being relegated.

Adam Field after 12 minutes and Jamie Frost on 51 minutes had the Yorkshire side in control and they held firm, despite conceding a 65th minute penalty that Luke Denson converted.

Clitheroe comfortably won the derby at home to relegated Ramsbottom United in front of 436 - a Bradley Carroll penalty, Bradley Knox, Alex Newby and Dimitri Tuanzebe all finding the target.

A crowd of 338 were at Irongate to see Bamber Bridge edge out neighbours Lancaster City, thanks to a goal on the hour-mark from Matt Lawlor, while 590 were at Glossop North End to see the hosts beat Hyde United by the same scoreline, courtesy of Mark Reed on 69 minutes.

Elsewhere, Ben Wharton`s penalty, also on the hour-mark, won the game for visiting Colne at Parkside against Kendal Town.
