Bank Holiday Monday's South action review

By David Watters

Like its northern section, the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division South fixture list on Bank Holiday Monday was hit by midweek FA Cup replays, losing seven of its originally scheduled eleven matches, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

However, there was a first win of the season for Market Drayton Town while newly-promoted Basford United slipped into third place in the early-season table.

Tividale have started the new campaign disappointingly and suffered a fourth defeat in five games as Market Drayton broke their duck in Shropshire.

Simon Everall gave the home side a 36th minute lead that Scott Ryan added to on 56 minutes, with James O`Reilly putting the icing on the cake five minutes from time.

Basford beat switched Rugby Town 3-0 at Mill Street, taking a 34th minute lead through Stuart Hendrie – brother of former Villa star Lee.

Ruben Wiggins-Thomas doubled the Nottingham side`s lead six minutes after the break and Dean Meikle made it 3-0 with less than three minutes remaining.

On the 3G at Coles Lane hosts Romulus were on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat by Chasetown.

James Dance proved to be the Scholars` hero, bagging a brace in the seventh and 60th minutes – the second from the penalty spot – Mitch McDonald sandwiching a reply for the Roms on 49 minutes.

Daventry Town, switched from the Southern League along with Rugby, made it three wins from five matches with a 1-0 success against Carlton Town at Communications Park, Jason Lee scoring winner on 79 minutes.
