'Beast' wipes out entire programme

Fans, players and officials won't be enjoying any EVO-STIK League football this weekend after the 'Beast from the East' wiped out Saturday's entire fixture list on Friday.

The EVO-STIK League South clash on the 3G at Coles Lane between Romulus and Newcastle even fell victim to the freezing conditions and was the last to go with snow blanketing much of the UK and more expected before Saturday's full programme of fixtures were due to kick off.

The matches were postponed 24 hours early after the Northern Premier League put special measures in place to avoid any unnecessary travel and inconvenience for fans, players and officials and ensure their safety with more severe winter weather forecast for the weekend.

Clubs were put on alert for a third time this season on Thursday afternoon after the Met Office issued a number of Yellow and Red weather warnings from Scotland to the South West and the winter blast continued to cause travel chaos across the UK.
