Mark Beesley won the right to manage Burscough on a permanent basis on Wednesday when officials at the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Linnets confirmed his appointment as the permanent successor to Derek Goulding.

Beesley, pictured, agreed to hold the fort at Victoria Park in November when Goulding left the First Division North club to join Neville Southall's management team at Bangor City.

In a statement released by the Linnets, officials also confirmed the appointment of Liam Blakeman as Beesley's assistant-manager.

Burscough's 34-year-old player-manager is vastly experienced having turned out for Preston North End, Chester City, Hereford United, Forest Green Rovers, Southport, Fleetwood Town, York City and Hednesford Town.

Former Bootle assistant manager Blakeman, 32, is also a well-travelled, numbering Blackburn Rovers, Leigh Genesis, Southport, AFC Telford United, Hednesford Town and Kendal Town among his former clubs.

Burscough chairman Mike Swift said: "Director of football David Hughes has spoken with the players and is very pleased with the dressing room reaction to the board`s confidence in Mark and Liam in taking the Linnets forward and into the play-offs."
