Belper make first signing ahead of new season

Belper Town have announced the signing of winger Kevin Bastos ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Bastos signs from Southern Premier League Central side Basford United, who finished 15th in the league last season.

Head Coach of the Nailers Lee Attenborough has worked with Bastos before, having managed him already at Loughborough Dynamo.

Bastos joined Basford United back in January, having been at Loughborough for just under two years. During that time, he made 58 appearances, scoring 29 goals, and registering 26 assists.

Bastos said the chance to work with Attenborough again was a key factor in him making the move to the Raygar Stadium.

“I was with Lee at Loughborough,” he said. “He was the one who brought me to Loughborough in the first place.

“Just working with him and seeing what he did with Loughborough, and improving my game.

“I came here because of what the club pitched me on what they want to do. They want to get straight back up, win this league and challenge for silverware.

“When you have a team and a manager that helps you, and knows how you play, that’s all you want as a player - to be able to express yourself on the pitch.”
