Belper ready to roll after record win

Belper Town head to King’s Lynn Town on Saturday full of confidence after their 9-0 midweek thrashing of Romulus.

The Nailers recorded their biggest ever win in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League on Tuesday night and manager Peter Duffield, pictured, reckons his side is in great shape for the daunting away day.

Duffield said: "It was a good night for everyone at the club. I've been saying for long enough that we haven't been clinical and ruthless enough and then we did it all in one night.

"They had two men sent-off but we still had a job to do and I was delighted at the way we didn't take our foot off the gas or start showboating. Hopefully, this result will set the tone for the rest of the season."

The icing on the cake for Duffield was the long-awaited return to action of star striker Jon Froggatt from a knee injury. Froggatt netted 33 goals last term and only needed seven minutes to finally open his account in the current campaign after coming off the bench.

"That just rounded off a great night," said Duffield. "It has hurt him deeply not being involved and you could see from the way his goal was celebrated how much it meant to him and the rest of the players."

The second placed Linnets are unbeaten at home in the league this season, with six wins and two draws. They did, however, lose 3-1 in midweek at Sutton Coldfield Town, who beat Belper 2-1 last Saturday.

Duffield should have a full squad to pick from, with the exception of defender Greg Wright, who is suspended.
