Blues keeper calls time

Leek Town

Leek Town keeper Danny Roberts has been transfer listed at his own request, writes Michael Cope.

Evo-Stik NPL First Division South Leek say they have ‘regretfully’ agreed to the tall stopper's request to leave after he chose to remain at home rather than travel to Carlton Town on Saturday, prompting manager Lee Casswell to confirm he could move on.

Blues Chairman Andrew Wain hopes Roberts, who joined the club in January 2011 from Colwyn Bay and was previously on the books of Norton United and Stone Dominoes, will reconsider but insists they’ll turn down any approach without the right fee.

The Blues have also dismissed speculation that keeper Steve Hodgson, who was called in as emergency cover while Roberts and Daniel Lloyd-Weston were out, could also be leaving Harrison Park.

Roberts started his career in Leek’s youth set-up. After missing 13 games this season with a broken finger he recorded two clean sheets after winning back his place in the side but was replaced by Lloyd-Weston after missing training in the run-up to Leek's recent game against Stafford Rangers.
