Frickley Athletic are mourning one of their top ten record appearances holders.

Former Blues star George Orange, pictured, passed away last Saturday aged 80 having played 416 times for Frickley Colliery between the 1950-51 and 1962-63 seasons.

Born in Grimethorpe, Mr Orange's funeral takes place on Tuesday at Grimethorpe Methodist Church at 10.30am.

Blues spokesman Steve Pennock said: "All at Frickley Athletic pass on our condolences to George's wife Sheila as well as their son and daughter."

Renowned for his powerful shooting, he is also third in Frickley’s list of all time scorers with 118 goals. The club's late forward will also be remembered for playing and scoring in their first home game under floodlights against Bentley Colliery in February 1957.

The wing half or wing forward moved to Grimsby Town for a fee of £600 after the 1950-51 season but returned a year later to play continuously at Westfield Lane for the next ten years. He was also an accomplished cricket, turning out for Frickley Colliery Cricket Club.

During his time with the Blues, he won two Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup Final winners medals in 1956-57 and 1960-61, as well as making an FA Cup First Round Proper appearance against South Shields in 1957.
