Blues walking wounded on the mend

Leek Town

Leek Town manager Lee Casswell waived goodbye to Christian Miller after his protracted move to Newcastle Town finally went through but has welcomed back midfielder Danny Shelley after injury.

Shelley made an immediate impact on his return on Saturday when he scored his first goal for the Blues in their 2-1 Evo-Stik NPL First Division South win at Lincoln.

Casswell is now looking forward to seeing another of his midfield walking wounded return after Anthony Danylyk won a place on the bench for the weekend’s victory. Danylyk has been out of action since the opening game of the season and is close to full fitness after playing twice on loan at Norton United.

Injured striker Dan Cope has also returned to match action after missing all of the campaign so far and on Saturday came through 90 minutes in the reserves’ game at Ball Haye Green. He is due to on continue his rehabilitation with two further games for the reserves this week.

Leek say keeper Danny Roberts has also recovered from a broken finger and has been given the all-clear to resume playing. Casswell has pencilled in Roberts to return to the side for their Harrision Park clash at home to Rainworth Miners Welfare on Saturday week with current number one Daniel Lloyd-Weston due to undergo dental surgery next week.

Ashley Woolliscroft, named as club captain before the start of the campaign, looks to be on his way out of Leek after being left out on Saturday and not travelling with the squad to Lincoln. He has failed to hold down a regular place in Casswell’s side and is currently the subject of a seven day notice of approach from Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division Nantwich Town.

* Leek are away at Halesowen on Saturday in the league but are inviting fans to dress up in fancy dreess and head for Harrison Park on their return for a Haloween Party at the club's Blues Bar.

The event kicks of at 7.30pm with tickets priced at £3 for adults and £1.50 for children.
