Blues winger makes speedy exit

Leek Town

Speedy winger Rob Stevenson has left Leek Town by mutual consent to return to Market Drayton Town.

Stevenson joined the Blues last year from Stafford Rangers but has failed to hold down a regular place and his departure follows the recent exits of defender Mark Ruddock and midfielder Christian Millar.

The 19-year-old spent the 2010-11 season as a regular with Market Drayton Town and returns to the Shropshire outfit after the Millers put in a seven day notice of approach.

During his time at Harrison Park Stevenson made 12 appearances, including six from the bench and scored one goal. Stevenson’s chances of regular football looked to be diminishing after the signing of former Crewe Alex favourite Dan Shelley.

Leek Town Ashley Woolliscroft may also be on his way out. The defender is believed to be considering an offer from Premier Division Nantwich Town after being left out of the Blues’ squad for the recent games at Halesowen and Matlock Town.

Meanwhile, ongoing refurbishment work at Harrison Park has forced Leek to switch their scheduled FA Trophy replay with Matlock Town from Tuesday to Wednesday night and to play the Second Qualifying clash at Belper Town.

The Blues were forced to switch as engineers are taking longer than expected to install a new pitch perimeter fence and new dugouts, ruling the replay at Harrison Park out on safety grounds.

Kick off at the Gladiators’ Christchurch Meadow is 7.45pm.
