Boxing Day's First Division North review

By David Watters

There are new leaders of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North table after Boxing Day`s fixtures, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Ossett Town took over top spot for the first time after edging out Yorkshire rivals Farsley Celtic by the odd goal in five at Ingfield.

A crowd of 247 saw Alex Peterson give Town a 27th minute lead. However, two goals in four minutes from Paul Walker and Jordan Deacy took Celtic into the break in front. But goals in the final 10 minutes from Ashley Jackson and then Peterson again sealed Town`s win.

Erstwhile leaders Lancaster City suffered a 1-0 defeat at Parkside against Kendal Town, a Josh Westwood own goal seven minutes after half-time winning it in front of a crowd of 360.

Glossop North End, Trafford and Scarborough Athletic complete the top five.

Glossop edged out Mossley AFC by the odd goal in five in a home fixture in which Max Leonard`s brace and Ben Richardson outgunned a Mike Fish penalty and a Doug Carroll reply for the Lilywhites.

Trafford dropped to fourth after being held to a 1-1 draw at Llanelian Road by Colwyn Bay, whose Scott Bakkor gave them a 16th minute lead that Mark Derbyshire eventually cancelled out after 69 minutes.

Scarborough are level on points with Trafford after another 3-2 verdict at Tadcaster Albion.

In front of a terrific crowd of 721, Taddy led through Carl Stewart`s 39th minute opener. Benny Igiehon equalised
nine minutes into the second half, only for Tom Allan to restore the home side`s lead on the hour-mark. But an Adam Bolder spot-kick and then Cameron Murray earned Boro local bragging rights in the final 10 minutes.

Clitheroe are sixth but were held to a 2-2 Shawbridge draw by Lancashire neighbours Colne, who equalised through Richard Seear after Dan Brady`s opener. Chris Lynch then put the visitors in front five minutes after the break, only for Chris Churchman to level within six minutes.

A crowd of 384 saw Radcliffe Borough win their Stainton Park derby with Ramsbottom United with goals from Elliot Rokka on 56 minutes and then a stoppage time penalty from Jack Hindle – all after Ryan Salmon`s 23rd minute opener for Rammy.

Brighouse Town won 3-0 at second-bottom Goole AFC with goals from James Pollard, Leon Osbourne and Luke Parkin, while third-bottom Prescot Cables shocked mid-table Bamber Bridge, winning 5-1 at Irongate.

Several new signings helped Cables, whose Lloyd Dean, Dominic Marie, a brace from one of those newbies Chris Almond and Harry Cain, outgunned Ryan Riley for Brig.

Fourth-bottom Ossett Albion beat bottom side Burscough 1-0 at the Victoria Ground, courtesy of Jackson Hassanyeh`s 31st minute effort.

Tameside honours went to visiting Hyde United, who beat Droyslden 3-1 at the Butcher`s Arms with second half goals from Ryan White, Matt Beadle and Dan Pilkington, Luke Daly netting a late consolation for the Bloods.
