Brig aiming high after survival

Bamber Bridge boss Joey Collins says they’re aiming high in 2019/20 after narrowly avoiding relegation last term.

The club went through three managers last season and saw a solid start and the departure of Neil Reynolds followed by a poor run that sucked them in to the relegation zone.

A spring revival though helped them climb out of the bottom three in their first season back in the NPL Premier Division.

Collins told the club’s official website: “We don’t want to be around the relegation zone again.

“It was tough but I think we will have learnt from that.

“It was the first season the lads have played in the Premier Division and I think now they have that experience, it can only add to what we want to do.

“For us we want to push on – we’re looking for a play off position and I don’t see any reason why we can’t do that with the squad we’ve got.

“It’s going to be a tough ask but with the players we’ve got now and the stability around the club we need to push on and get that belief in the players.”

Brig open up with a trip to a new look Matlock Town on Saturday.
