Bucks mark milestone month for legendary duo

The month of March proved significant for Buxton’s two longest serving players.

Buxton’s officials and fans have been enjoying keeping a close eye on the progress of former striker Mark Reed, pictured, since he left the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League to start scoring goals for Glossop North End.

Regarded as a Silverlands legend after firing them to successive promotions in 2006 and 2007, the hot-shot left in March after plundering 251 goals in 469 appearances spread over three spells with the Premier Division club.

In April 2010 he overtook Herbert Daniels's 78 year record of 189 goals when he scored against Northwich Victoria and only David Bainbridge with 650 appearances and Mick Davis on 591, have turned out more times for the Bucks in the club’s 138 year history.

When he left the 33-year-old fans’ favourite said he’d “enjoyed every minute” of his time at the club since making his debut back in October 2002 during a 3-2 Northern Counties East League home win over Glapwell.

Reed scored his first goal for Glossop in a 4-1 NCEL win at Winsford United two weeks ago and Bucks spokesman Tony Tomlinson said: “He left for his new venture with the very best wishes of out supporters and officials, many of whom have regarded him as their favourite all-time player.

“We hope that Mark will be able to find a suitable time to return to Silverlands to say goodbye to his many supporters and friends here.”

Last month Buxton also hailed the achievements of midfielder Neil Stevens who made his 300th appearance for the club in the 0-0 draw at Curzon Ashton.

The 26-year-old joined the Bucks from Farsley Celtic in November 2008, making a successful debut in a 3-1 NPL victory at Guiseley.

Apart from a brief spell at North Ferriby United at the start of the 2012-13 season, he has been at the Silverlands ever since. Described by the club as “superb midfielder and club man”, he currently has 21 goals to his name.
