Bucks plan to beat big freeze

Buxton are hoping their fans will answer an appeal to help clear Silverlands of tons of snow and ice so one of their most lucrative fixtures of the season can go ahead.

The Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Bucks are due to host FC United of Manchester on Saturday week and fear the Premier Division clash between the play-off chasing sides, not to mention the huge gate it is expected to generate, will be in jeopardy if the cold snap continues and stops Silverlands thawing out in time.

To beat the freeze, the club is asking supporters not travelling to back the Bucks at Worksop's Sandy Lane this Saturday to turn up at Silverlands from 10am and help starting clearing the ground.

Club spokesman Mike Barton said: "The forecast is for a thaw early next week but the shear volume of snow on the Silverlands pitch means that a big helping hand will be needed for any chance of the important match with FC United going ahead.

"It is vital both in terms of club income and continued momentum on the pitch to get this match on and club officials would welcome as much help as possible. Hot drinks will be supplied and helpers are reminded to bring a shovel!"
