Buxton hosting Military Wives

Buxton

Buxton have revealed they're so proud of a one off chance to reward the Military Wives for their fantastic fundraising and pamper Britain's best loved choir that they're happily planning to set aside their FA Cup dreams.

The Bucks have an FA Cup dilemma after the nation’s singing sensations, pictured, agreed to perform at Silverlands alongside local school children on FA Cup Third Qualifying day while the choir are in town performing at Buxton’s famous Opera House.

As it stands, the Bucks are due to play FC United of Manchester on Saturday 6 October in the Evo-Stik NPL’s Premier Division, but only if both sides are knocked out in next weekend’s Second Qualifying Round.

Otherwise, the Bucks hope to hastily rearrange another league fixture so they don’t miss out on the chart-toppers who released their latest charity album last week. A worst case scenario would see them away in the FA Cup, so they’re even planning to organise a friendly using their reserves and youth teams.

The Silverlands concert is all part of a special weekend of 'pampering' the grateful club and town have organised for the choir who raise funds for the British Legion and other Armed Forces charities. The choir will stay at Buxton’s Palace Hotel where they’ll be guests of honour at a ‘Welcome to Buxton’ dinner on Saturday evening.

Each choir member will also return home with a luxury gift bag of souvenirs and mementoes of their visit, courtesy of many of the town’s businesses. Three local firms - M.Markovitz, Lomas Distribution and Tarmac - sponsored the weekend’s events to help bring the deserving Ladies to Buxton.

Buxton Director Paul Jenner says they’ll get a game on whatever happens to ensure the special performance by the Military Wives goes ahead. They are performing to sell out crowds over the weekend and the club hope an army of potential new fans could take the chance to see them, especially if they've missed out on tickets or hear they'll be performing their hit single 'Sing' with the community's children.

He said: "Following their performance there’ll be a football match to enjoy one way or the other for this fantastic cause. But at this stage it isn’t clear who will be playing given the show falls on the day of an FA Cup round. Who knows who will still be in the hat?"

David Hopkins, Managing Director of M.Markovitz Ltd and a Buxton Director, played a key role setting up and organising the special weekend for the Military Wives.

He urged the people of Derbyshire and the North West to get get along to Silverlands and said: "We are all, I’m sure, proud of our armed forces and the courage they display. Let’s make this one very special weekend where we can show our support and at the same time enjoy a really tremendous time here in Buxton.

"I’m sure the public will turn out in huge numbers at the football ground to witness a fantastic and moving performance."
