Carruthers wary of new manager bounce

Basford boss Martin Carruthers isn't taking their game against bottom of the table Lancaster City this weekend lightly.

The Dolly Blues have won just once in the league all season, but will be boosted by the appointment of Martin Fell as their new manager, assisted by Graham Lancashire.

Basford went top of the EVO-STIK League Premier Division table for 24 hours on Monday night after a 2-0 win over Whitby, that Carruthers described as "probably the best half in my time as manager".

And they beat Lancaster 3-1 just two weeks ago.

He said: “Since we played them Lancaster have had their first win of the season, added some new players and will have a new manager in place by the time we face them this Saturday.

“The worst time to play any side is when they have appointed a new manager and everyone is eager to impress."
