Champagne for centurion skipper!

Ashton United skipper Jason Gorton enjoyed a good day out in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League on Saturday, before and after beating table-topping Nantwich Town.

Before leading the Robins to a 4-2 win over the Dabbers at Hurst Cross in the EVO-STIK NPL's top flight, the 29-year-old former Mossley defender was presented with a bottle of champagne by director Jackie Tierney to mark his 100th appearances for the club, pictured.

An FA Vase finalist with Glossop North End in 2009, Gorton signed for Ashton United in the summer of 2013 before earning both the players' and fans' player of the year accolades and being promoted to skipper the following season.

He joins a growing band of players in the current squad who've topped the 100-game mark under joint managers Paul Phillips and Steve Halford.

Midfielder Gary Gee and striker Martin Pilkington have led the way after reaching their centuries earlier this season, Pilkington also receiving recognition for reaching the 50 goal mark earlier in the campaign.

Keeper Paul Philips tops the current squad's appearances chart with 171 games under his belt although on-loan defender Alex Frost has played 212 times for the Ashton-under-Lyne club in total, having previously spent five seasons at Hurst Cross during the Danny Johnson era.

Pilkington extended his goal tally by one against Nantwich while a satisfied Eddie Toner now boasts statistics showing one game and one goal after netting on his debut following his switch from EVO-STIK NPL First Division North Burscough earlier in the week.

Matt Chadwick netted Ashton's two other goals in the weekend win that moved them up into the play-off places for the first time this season.
