Champion Stott targets turnaround

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League title-winner Dean Stott has signed for Ramsbottom United.

Stott, tho captained FC United of Manchester to title success and promotion in 2015, was unveiled on Sunday as the latest player to sign for joint bosses Paul Fildes and Mark Fell as they continue to rebuild the relegated Rams for their return to EVO-STIK NPL First Division North in August.

Fildes told the club's fans that they were delighted to land the 26-year-old Burnley-based right-back who played a pivotal role FCUM's rise and has been equally as effective in central midfield during a career that has also taken in Preston, Burnley and Hyde.

Hailing Stott, pictured, Fildes said: "There's not many players out there at 26-years-old who have won as many titles as Dean, the fact we've got a lad in his physical prime, with experience of winning an EVO-STIK title makes him a fantastic acquisition."

He added: "Dean's turned down better offers financially to join us and it's confirmation to us we are heading in the right direction in terms of how professionally we run things."

Stott, who is expected to be feature for the first time at Nelson on Saturday 16 July, said: "We had a great chat during the week, it's very clear to me how the managers want to play and it was refreshing to hear the club's ambition and drive. Rammy are a club who I feel are going places and I want to be part of the new era here."
