Champions lose but charity wins!

Chorley

A team of fans from Evo-Stik Northern Premier League champions Chorley might have lost 4-1 to their opposite numbers from Manchester United in a fundraising clash but the real winner was a local charity.

Chorley Mencap, who have a shop in the town and have been supported by the Magpies throughout their title-winning campaign, are £500 better off this week thanks to Chorley AFC who organised the fixture and family fun day at Victory Park.

Chorley AFC manager James Wilson, pictured with Mencap’s Lionel Barker and two of the charity’s workers, said: "Since we started our first fundraising event in 2012 we have always made a point of raising money for worthwhile causes. We’ve given money to Derian House in the past and thought it would be fitting to help the clubs chosen charity for the season, Chorley Mencap.

"It was a great day and everybody had lots of fun. I personally would like to thank everyone who has helped us achieve this milestone and please support us with further activities in the future."

Barker said: "Chorley Football Club, as well as AFC Chorley, has supported our local charity throughout the year and we are immensely thankful to the club for their continuing efforts to raise money and local people of the town for showing awareness of our society."
