Charity donations rolling in

Dave Wheatley Charity Fund

Donations for Sunday night’s a charity auction in aid of the DW Trophy Charity Fund are still coming in.

Leicestershire's Ibstock Working Mens Club hosts the charity’s latest live music and entertainment event with funds going to the British Heart Foundation and East Midlands Ambulance Service

Backed by the Evo-Stik NPL, the DW Trophy Charity Fund was set to honour the former Shepshed Dynamo FC Director and Secretary Dave Wheatley by his son Craig. The popular Non-League veteran passed away unexpectedly in July 2011 and made many friends as Shepshed Dynamo’s groundsman, secretary and director.

In May a Shepshed Dynamo XI made up of former players from various Evo-Stik NPL clubs became the first holders of the DW Trophy when they beat an All Stars XI 6-3. Nearly £1000 was raised when a good crowd turned out to see Dave Wheatley’s grandson Cory Attwal score from the penalty spot to help the Shepshed XI win.

DWTCF Chairman Craig Wheatley hopes this weekend’s event and the summer’s charity game will become annual fundraisers for the organisation’s two designated charities - The British Heart Foundation and East Midlands Ambulance Service.

He said: "I’m sure the evening will be a success and a further step forward in making both events an annual opportunity for people to show support for both the BHF and EMAS."

Donations for the charity auction now include signed footballs, shirts, n-power Championship match tickets, ground tours and other donations from Milton Keynes, Notts County, Nottingham Forest, Watford, Birmingham City, Burton Albion, Leicester City, Norwich City and Sheffield Wednesday.

Other items up for grabs include a signed mystery Adidas Tango12 match ball from Euro 2012. UEFA’s official match ball was first tested competitively during the charity’s fundraising game at the Dovecote in May and the test run also featured on the BBC during the summer tournament.

Shepshed Dynamo themselves have also donated a shirt signed by a number of footballing loving celebrities led by former Emmerdale actor Danny Miller, Aaron Lowe from Big Brother and Eastenders star Matt Lapinskas.

Tickets are priced £5.00 with free entry for children. Tickets are available on the door for the event which kicks off at 7pm and runs until late.

Anyone wishing to make a donation should contact Craig Wheatley on 07930 949255 or email cd.wheatley@btinternet.com. For more details visit www.dwtrophy.org.uk.
