Chettle bemoans profligacy in front of goal

Basford United manager Steve Chettle was left scratching his head at their lack of goals in defeat to Grantham Town on Monday.

In their two wins so far this season, Basford have scored seven goals - beating Hyde 3-2 and Lancaster 4-1.

But defeat on Monday was their second 1-0 loss of the season leaving them with a 50/50 record so far.

He told the club’s official website: “We had more chances than we did against Matlock. We had four golden chances all in the six-yard box, where we just needed someone to put the ball in the net.

“It’s the hardest thing in the world scoring goals and it’s proven to be our downfall.

“I have no idea (the difference between the Lancaster and Grantham games). We got the ball into good areas. When you’re lining the ball on plates for strikers to put in from six yards out and we don’t, it’s going to be tough.”
