Ashton United coach Dave Haworth is running the Manchester BUPA 10K run next month to raise money for The Christie and Bolton Hospice after the deaths of three of his family from cancer.

The Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club's coach, pictured, is setting off on the run for the third time on May 26 to raise funds after cancer took the lives of his son, sister-in-law and aunty in recent years.

Howarth's aunty passed away this year while battling Leukaemia and his sister died in 2010. Tragically, his son Steven died from an aggressive form of Small Cell Cancer at the hospice on his 30th birthday in February 2011 following lengthy treatment at Salford's Hope Hospital. Howarth is also hoping to help the Salford hospital where his son and other relatives were treated.

The fundraiser said: "The staff were brilliant. I am very keen to raise as much as I can for the Christie and the Bolton Hospice, who rely heavily on donations to keep their services going and make sure that these services are still available to other people in the future."

Howarth has set up a JustGiving page for donations at: www.justgiving.com/David-Haworth3. Donations can also be mafe via text to 70070. Simply enter the coach's unique code DHDH96 and the amount being given. The service is provided by Vodafone and the entire donation goes directly to the charity.
