Witton Albion’s supporters and officials have been praised by the Cheshire FA for beating the big freeze to stage their 1-0 win over Runcorn Town at the Help For Heroes Stadium.
A group of veteran supporters, the majority senior citizens, spent over six hours last Wednesday clearing the ground of snow and ice for the First Round tie and the Cheshire FA Cup Committee wrote to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club to pay tribute to their efforts.
Competition Secretary Ray Pullen hailed the fans for their success in ensuring the fixture went ahead, unlike the vast majority of matches elsewhere, and the hospitality later shown to them and the competition’s new new sponsor, Peak Associates Environmental Consultants Limited.
