Cup coincidence spooks Brigg

Brigg Town

Brigg Town's FA Cup tie at fellow Evo-Stik NPL outfit Ramsbottom United this coming Saturday has thrown up a strange coincidence.

The Evo-Stik NPL's new First Division North side Ramsbottom United play at the Harry Williams Stadium and Lincolnshire's Brigg say they were astonished when the draw for the Cup's Preliminary Round was made as Harry Williams is the name of one of their most famous sons - former chairmen Harry Williams!

The father of three, who sadly passed away in 2007, was known as 'Mister Brigg Town' after serving the Evo-Stik NPL First Division South side for nigh on 50 years in various capacities.

Brigg spokesman Matthew Jones said: "He was out in all weathers working on behalf of the club to promote and foster good relationships with businesses, the townsfolk and the local council."

Brigg lost 3-1 away at Kidsgrove Athletic in their opening game while the Rams secured a 3-3 draw at home to Cammell Laird on Saturday on their league debut thanks to a late equaliser from Anthony Johnson.
