Defender switches to high-flying Ammies

Ashton United defender Cavell Coo switched to high-flying EVO-STIK Northern Premier League rivals Salford City on Monday, writes James Burch.

Coo, pictured, joined the Premier Division's Robins in 2013 and has been a mainstay in Paul Phillip’s side this year having played in all eleven top flight league fixtures. Since the start of the campaign, he’d also picked up two man-of-the-match awards against Buxton in August and Trafford in September.

The 27-year-old joins a Salford City side who are on a run of four straight wins and are only one point off the top of the First Division North table with three games in hand. He was due to link up with the Ammies ahead of their home league fixture against West Yorkshire’s Brighouse Town on Tuesday night.

The Ammies have signed a versatile player who came through the ranks at the famous Crewe Alexandra academy under the watchful eyes of Alex legend Dario Gradi. The former FC United of Manchester and Altrincham star can play at left or right-back as well as defensive midfield.

While Coo will be missed by Robins manager Paul Phillips, he did strengthen his midfield options on Monday after former midfielder Lee Rick returned to the Hurst Cross to put pen to paper on a contract only a week after ex-Manchester United midfielder Ronnie Wallwork signed for the club.
