Defensive swap pays immediate dividends

Leek Town

Leek Town manager Lee Casswell is praising Ellis Storey for his part in Saturday’s 3-0 home win over Market Drayton Town, writes Michael Cope.

Centre-back Storey arrived on a one month loan deal from Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division Ilkeston last week, swapping places at Harrison Park with defender Dan Partridge who was recalled by Robins after a three month loan spell. He made an immediate impact himself on his return to Kevin Wilson's side by scoring in their 2-2 draw at Witton Albion to salvage a point.

The Blues manager said: "I was very pleased with the way Storey settled into the side. The lad defended well and his distribution was good – he had a tremendous game for us."

Casswell's move to solve his side's defensive frailties in Evo-Stik NPL First Division South paid immediate dividends with the Blues keeping their first home clean sheet of the campaign. Storey, 19, worked his way through Ilkeston’s Academy before breaking into the first team and arrived at Harrison Park after completing a similar loan period at rivals Mickleover Town.

Casswell is still looking to bolster his dwindling squad this week after issuing a seven-days notice of approach to Northwich Victoria for play-making midfielder Christian Peach. He was an unused sub in Leek’s New Year’s Day 4-3 defeat to the Vics at Marsden Road.

Despite having to keep a close eye on his budget, Casswell needs reinforcements with a lengthening injury list. They include three long term casualties - Michael Thomas, ankle, Anthony Danylyk, knee, and Tom Urwin, knee. All three are out for the foreseeable future say the Blues.

Meanwhile, Leek are offering places to fans on their team coach for Saturday's trip to second placed Stamford AFC. Places are on a first come, first served basis. For further details call: 01538 386 356.
