Departure sparks fresh managerial shake-up

Scott Hellewell will continue as Brigg Town’s joint player manager after Michael Jacklin left the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club on Tuesday.

Jacklin’s registration was cancelled by mutual consent following talks with the club’s committee after Saturday's crucial 2-1 victory over Kidsgrove Athletic, a result which lifted the Zebras 10 points clear of the First Division South drop zone with seven games to left play this season.

Defender Hellewell, pictured, originally took over in November 2013 as part of unusual trio of joint player managers alongside Jacklin and Paul Grimes following the resignation of former boss Mick Gray.

The Hawthorns triumvirate was later reduced to two when Grimes left to join Premier Division Grantham Town to concentrate on his playing career.

Officials at the Zebras, who host Leek Town on Saturday, have moved quickly to reshuffle their managerial team, promoting Scott Barlow to joint manager alongside Hellewell and naming Gary Paton as their new assistant manager.

Jacklin had made 46 appearances for the Zebras since returning to the club last summer, winning 16, drawing 10, losing 20 and scoring five goals.

He was named man-of-the-match on nine occasions during the successful spell and a Zebras spokesman said: "Everyone at Brigg Town would like to thank Michael for his efforts and wishe him every success in the future."
