The Digital Challenge Award winners for 2018/19 were announced in Blackpool at the NPL End of Season dinner.

Each of the three divisions had a winner presented, while there was also a new viral award.

In the Premier Division, outgoing media officer Steve Sharman was awarded for his efforts, with Morpeth Town and Prescot Cables coming out on top in the East and West Divisions respectively.

The NPL's social media officer, James Heyes, said: “The Digital Challenge is not just about how many followers a club has or how pretty a page is, it is about how clubs are developing their digital footprint for themselves, as representatives of the League and the challenge they have in a ever changing world that the online battlefield has become.

"The clubs through out the season were judged on the growth of their own social media accounts, the impact they have made throughout the season, how unique the clubs can be and meeting the compliance of the league.

"All three division champions have not only worked the hardest they can but have shown what is capable of the clubs in all sections and excelled in their work.

“The fourth prize is always the most interesting one, as it isn’t decided over a season, it quite literally is who can do it the biggest and best.

"When judging the award it is always great to see the clubs of the Northern Premier League light up the stage of the footballing world as seen with the winners both last season and this year.

"Warrington Town were selected thanks to Tony Gray’s free kick being picked up by an Adidas advert with David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane. One of the most known brands in the world, two of the most Iconic players of all time, An advert for the most iconic football boots, known by children all around the world, to be closed off by one of the best goals this season. It is hard to ignore a global TV advert picking this piece of footage to be the most outstanding piece this season

"Colne were unfortunate to only have been runners up this season, however their growing “bromance” with one of the well known German Professional clubs, FC Koln, was a real contender, with both cheering each other on and appearing in each other GIFs.

"Clubs in the higher ranks of the English game struggle with this ability and are showing what is possible."

Other clips under contention for the Viral award were South Shield’s weekly appearance on Soccer AM throughout the season, Whitby Town’s Jimmy Beadle looking rather sheepish as a shattering shot went round the English Football blogs, Hednesford Town’s Reality TV series with the spectators throughout the season and Colne FC’s captain on Non League Day highlighting the important work of the Prostate Cancer Charity
