Double signing for Newcastle Town

Newcastle Town have announced their first two summer signings.

Forward Jonny Nixon has joined the club, having featured in the NWCFL for Runcorn Town last season.

The 23-year-old previously played for the likes of Port Vale and Everton as a youth player, before going on to spend time in a full-time environment in America with Providence College.

Also joining him at the Lyme Valley Stadium is former professional midfielder Ryan Jennings.

Jennings began his career with hometown club Stockport County and went on to join Wigan Athletic in 2012.

He made his sole appearance for the Latics in a League Cup defeat against Bury in 2015 and has gone on to feature for a number of different clubs across the football pyramid since, including AFC Fylde and Alfreton Town.

The midfielder enjoyed a brief stint with Widnes FC last season before going on to feature 31 times for fellow Pitching In NPL West Division side Ramsbottom United, who were relegated at the conclusion of the campaign.

"I had interest straight away, and [manager Paul Moore], told me about the place, what the club was looking to do and build, and straight away I was interested," he said.

"Then I came down, and that cemented it. You look around and wouldn't think this club is where it's at.

"It has aspirations to go higher, and that's somewhere I want to be and play football."
