East Division preview: Goal difference separate top two

By James Gordon

Two teams are neck and neck in a race to finish top of the Northern Premier League East Division, ahead of this week’s fixtures.

Currently in first place, Liversedge head to eighth placed Brighouse Town, and will be looking to extend their points and goal difference with a win.

Striker Gavin Allott will be bolstered after scoring four goals in his last outing to help Liversedge to a 6-1 victory over Lincoln United.

Hot on the heels of Liversedge, second placed Marske United host Stockton Town who are hoping to maintain a play-off position.

Marske United could make it 15 games unbeaten in the league as they fight on to claim the title.

Third placed Shildon can manoeuvre their way closer to the duo at the top of the league with a victory against Yorkshire Amateur at home. They are currently five points behind Marske United and Liversedge heading into this week’s fixtures.

Cleethorpes Town, who sit in fourth, will travel to Worksop Town.

They will be looking to stay in a play-off spot after suffering a 4-3 defeat to Marske United in their last outing.

Elsewhere at the bottom of the division, three teams are battling to stave off a relegation spot.

Bridlington Town currently sit in 17th place, one point behind two other teams in safety.

Brett Agnew’s men host 18th placed Pickering Town - who will be aiming to go level on points with their opponents with a victory.

Pontefract Collieries, who sit in 16th, will be hoping for a win to keep them out of a relegation spot. In their way are Frickley Athletic who will be looking for their sixth win of the season.

Separated by two goals, 15th placed Tadcaster Albion will be eager for three points to maintain the gap between themselves, Pontefract Collieries and a relegation position.

Dunston will travel to Hebburn Town in the hopes of pushing for a place in the play-offs.

Meanwhile, Stocksbridge Park Steels will host Sheffield FC who currently sit at the bottom of the league.
