East Round-up: Morpeth extend unbeaten run

By James Gordon

Morpeth Town extended their unbeaten run in the Evo-Stik East Division to nine matches after earning a battling point with ten-men Pontefract Collieries at The Harratts Nissan Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Highwaymen haven't lost in the league since the opening game of the season against Belper Town on August 18th and this was their first stalemate.

But considering they were forced to play with a man short for 66 minutes, they probably would have been happy with a share of the spoils that keeps them on top of the table, six points clear of former Ebac Northern League rivals Marske United.

Colls took an early 7th minute lead when Vaughan Redford was allowed too much time and space in the box before firing past Dan Lowson in the visitors' goal.

But the Highwaymen went on the offensive after that and pulled back on level terms 7 minutes later when David Carson got on the end of a Liam Henderson pass to lift the ball over the advancing keeper.

However, on 24 minutes, Henderson was shown a straight red card following consultation with his assistant after an off-the-ball incident involving Colls' Jimmy Williams.

The second half saw a Morpeth side happy to sit back and take the pressure and try and hit Colls with the occasional counter-attack, content to grab a point with ten-men.
