Easter Monday's First Division North review

Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North

There was a bit of a goal fest in the Easter Monday Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North fixtures with leaders Skelmersdale United winning their home derby with Prescot Cables to increase their advantage to sixteen points with eight games left, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

But Skem had to come back from being a 56th minute Liam Hollett goal behind to win, thanks to Dale Wright from the penalty spot on 69 minutes and then a Josh Hine brace in the final three minutes to take his tally to twenty for the season to date.

Mossley lost second spot after being held to a 2-2 draw at play-off contenders New Mills. Chris Denham gave the Lilywhites a 22nd minute lead that Dave Fitzpatrick cancelled out just after half-time. Sam Madeley restored Mossley's lead a couple of minutes later but Danny Douglas-Pringle ensured parity 20 minutes from time to keep the Millers well in the hunt for a top five place.

Trafford returned to second after hammering neighbours Salford City 6-0 at Shawe View. Michael Oates took his goals total past the thirty-mark with strikes in the 17th and 54th minutes. Andy Smart on 52 minutes, Paul Ashton on 72, Will Ahern on 75 and Nia Bayunu on five minutes also got in on the act.

However, the biggest winners of the day were Curzon Ashton who hit Wakefield for ten at the Tameside Stadium to return to fourth spot.

Kristian Dennis will have the record books scoured this evening after hitting six of the goals himself to make it forty for the season to date. It was 6-1 at half-time – with Lee Turner scoring for the visitors – as Matty Kay and Chris Rowney got in on Dennis' act. Dennis added two more in the second half as did Simon Woodford.

Clitheroe, Ramsbottom United and Cammell Laird are all still in play-off contention.

Clitheroe won 1-0 at home to Lancaster City, courtesy of a last-gasp Danny Gregson own goal, while Laird ended Warrington Town's realistic hopes with a 2-1 home win, thanks to a Jamie Henders double on 38 minutes and then in stoppage time after Ciaran Kilheeney had pulled the Wire back into the game on 81 minutes.

But Rammy were held to a 2-2 derby draw at Stainton Park by Radcliffe Borough where Jon Robinson gave the visitors an early fifth minute lead that Kevin Sanasy levelled 11 minutes later. Robinson's second restored Rammy`s lead after 23 minutes, only for Sam Freakes to deny them 15 minutes from time.

Bottom-markers Garforth Town were hammered 6-2 at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds by the side who started the day just one place above them – Goole AFC. The Vikings found themselves 4-0 up through Grant Allott, Simon Colbear, Chris Ovington and Neil Towler by the 31st minute. Brett Mbalanda and Dan Sheriffe pulled two back for Town midway through the second half, only for Towler again and then Bill Law to score two more for the hosts in the last couple of minutes.

Harrogate Railway Athletic shocked Yorkshire neighbours Farsley FC at Throstle Nest, winning by the odd goal in five with goals from Nathan Cartman and Joe McCann in the first half and a Pat McGuire penalty midway through the second. The hosts responded through Adam Priestley on 27 minutes and then Rob O'Brien right at the death.

Bamber Bridge edged Burscough 2-1 at Irongate with Andy Bell on 57 minutes and Ali Waddecar on 66 minutes outgunning Liam Caddick's 83rd minute reply, while the Ossett derby was full of incident before ending all-square at 1-1.

Albion were awarded a penalty ten minutes after half-time and Joe Fox stepped up and made no mistake with the spot-kick. Town felt aggrieved and increased their efforts while Albion seemed to sit back on their lead. A long ball over the top ended with a Town forward on the ground and Stefan Holt was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

Ex-Albion player Shane Kelsey struck the spot-kick against the post and the ball was cleared. Albion were under pressure now with only ten-men and then two minutes from time Fox was adjudged to have handled in the box and was dismissed to leave Albion with nine. Keir Hannity levelled from the spot, but Albion held on.
