Edmondson starts making his mark

Carlisle United’s Tom Berwick, Alex Salmon and Brad Staunch are joining Kendal Town on work experience this week as new manager Steve Edmondson starts to make his mark on the Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division outfit.

The second-year trio have all been regulars for the League One club's Under 18s this season and will be in Edmondson’s squad ahead of the trip to Stafford Rangers on Saturday, his first match in charge since replacing Lee Ashcroft after last Saturday’s scheduled match against Eastwood Town was postponed.

Brunton Park’s youth team boss Eric Kinder believes experience of the Evo-Stik NPL’s top flight will be good for the Blues youngsters and said they were looking forward to helping their Cumbrian neighbours with Kendal now focusing on recruiting locally.

He said: "We are really pleased to be able to help Kendal out in this way. Steve [Edmondson] has just come into the job and he's doing everything he can to keep the club moving on.

"They asked if there was anything we could do to assist and I honestly think these three lads will do a job for them. We get on really well with Kendal, it's a great place for the club to open its pre-season campaign every year, and we know they'll treat the players well.

"It's a youth loan so it means we can recall them whenever we need to, but it's a good chance for our lads to get some competitive football at a really high standard over the Christmas period. I’ll get down there to see how they are doing as much as I can and I’m sure this will be of benefit to all concerned.”
