The Blues, who successfully hosted a number of UEFA U17's internationals last season, announced on Friday that England U16s will be taking on Spain in a 7pm kick-off at their home on Friday 17 February as preparation for next year’s UEFA European U17 Championship on home soil begins.
The 2018 chapter of the prestigious, 16-team tournament will be based out of St George’s Park with fixtures played in stadiums across the midlands. It will be the first time England has played host to the U17 competition and the Three Lions will be looking to add to the two titles they claimed in 2010 and 2014.
Many of head coach Dan Micciche’s current crop of U16s will be hoping to be a part of those finals and follow the lead of England captain Wayne Rooney who introduced himself to the international stage by claiming the Golden Player Award during the inaugural tournament in Denmark in 2002.
Admission to the UEFA Development Tournament fixture has been set at £3 for adults and £1.50 for children and concessions. For more information, including discounted group bookings and a special offer for FA Charter Standard clubs, email: leektowntickets@gmail.com.
Since the start of the season, the EVO-STIK NPL First Division South's Blues have also been hosting Stoke City's upcoming stars in the new Premier League 2. The Blues home passed a stringent stadium inspection last season with flying colours before getting the green light for Stoke to return to play in Staffordshire.
