Saturday's First Division North action review

The Wire earned promotion to the NPL's top flight next season with a thumping 6-1 win over Prescot Cables at Cantilever Park.

Ciaran Kilheeney topped and tailed the scoring in the 13th and 75th minutes and in between Scott Metcalfe, Ged Kinsella, Chris Gahgan and Danny O`Donnell hit the target, with Rob Doran replying on the hour-mark for Cables in front of a best of the season league crowd of 1,411.

Warrington were helped a little by Northwich Victoria, who are assured of a top five finish with Spennymoor Town.

The Vics beat the Moors 3-0 with Iain Howard two minutes after half-time, Josh Amis on the hour-mark and Richard Bennett 11 minutes from time all finding the net without response.

Glossop North End and Burscough complete the top five picture and both won away from home to keep the momentum going leading into the play-offs.

Glossop are just two points behind Northwich after winning 3-1 at lowly Ossett Town, thanks to a Jamie Rainford hat-trick in the 15th and 28th and 38th minutes – the last two both from the spot, with Steve Ridley replying 12 minutes from time at Ingfield.

Burscough won 2-0 at soon to be managerless Clitheroe, with Elliott Newby after 28 minutes and Liam Caddick 18 minutes from the end on target for the Linnets.

Clitheroe missed out on a top five finish as do Lancaster City, despite a good late run and a 1-0 win on Saturday at Queensgate against Scarborough Athletic, courtesy of a Craig Carney effort on 57 minutes.

Already-relegated Harrogate Railway suffered a 5-0 home hammering by Trafford, whose Connor Martin and Chris Palmer scored in the first half and Aaron Burns, Liam Davies and Mark Derbyshire in the second.

Bottom-markers New Mills picked up only their third point of the season with a 3-3 Church Lane draw against Witton Albion, whose Rob Hopley bagged a hat-trick to cancel out Danny McLoughlin, Ryan Hopper and Michael Boateng efforts for the visitors.

Bamber Bridge were another side to find a nap hand as Droylsden wind down another miserable campaign.

Ali Waddecar helped himself to a hat-trick, Glen Steel and Curtis Thompson with the others for Brig – Dan Parkinson replying on 48 minutes.

Brighouse Town won 3-1 at Parkside against Kendal Town, thanks to Tom Robinson after 51 and 85 minutes and Ernest Boafo on 75 minutes after Alex Newby had given the Mintcakes a 16th minute lead.

Richard Smith scored five minutes before the break to earn Radcliffe Borough a 1-0 Stainton Park win over Ossett Albion, while Farsley Celtic came back from 2-0 down to draw 3-3 at Seel Park against Mossley AFC, whose Doug Carroll bagged a brace, as did Aiden Savory for the visitors. Dave Short had opened the scoring for the home side after nine minutes with Robbie O’Brien grabbing Celtic's other goal on 73 minutes.
