Basford United, who sit 13th in the table, needed a keeper to replace Jordan Pierrepont.
The young keeper suffered from concussion in Saturday’s game away at Gainsborough Trinity.
25-year-old Preston, a former Scotland under-21s international, made 38 appearances for Basford in his first spell at the club.
When Kieran Preston first signed for the Basford, he stated, “I can’t wait to get started and so happy the deal got over the line so quickly.”
Chairman Chris Munroe praised the former Nottingham Forest and Bristol Rovers player when he first signed for the club, “to secure arguably the best keeper from last season from a play-off contender at our level is a massive achievement.”
Basford will have Preston available for their home game against 20th place Nantwich on Saturday.
